How to Make Your Move Cheaper and Better

How to Make Your Move Cheaper and Better

Moving is both expensive and arduous. There are a number of steps you can take to cut the cost of moving down substantially.

1. Consider moving yourself. Borrow a truck, or rent one, and ask your friends to help.

2. Seek a binding quote from a moving company. Know that moving companies provide two types of quotes: binding and non-binding. A non binding quote means little, it’s just their guess of hours and a set price per hour. But they have no incentive to get it done quickly. With a binding quote, you know what you will pay, period.

3. Be organized. If you have your stuff boxed and well labeled, the move will take less time. If you hire movers, less time will be less money.
4. Get your boxes at no charge. Lots of people give away used moving boxes at this website in the free section, but you have to act fast. Alternatively, ask nicely at a large retail store or market if they have or could save some extra boxes for you.

5. Consider leasing a moving container and filling it up yourself. A truck will move it to your new location where you can unload it.
