Denver International Airport ranked No. 2 based on factors such as size of the airport, wired facilities, wi-fi availability and whether the wi-fi is free.Late last year, DIA made its wi-fi free and added ads. It used to cost $7.95 for 24 hours. Denver and Las Vegas are two of fewer than 10 major airports around the world that offer free wi-fi throughout public areas, according to Forbes. Denver International Airport turned 12 this year, and last year 47.3 million passengers used the airport.
According to Patrick Heck, acting deputy manager for revenue and business development, the fact that airport use is up 4 percent so far this year means it’s likely DIA will see close to 50 million by the end of the year.
It just so happens that 50 million is the number of passengers DIA was built to handle, although it was designed to expand for far more. In fact, Heck points out that while some people don’t like how far away the airport feels, the amount of space it was able to secure will ensure that it can grow. “We’ll be able to take on pretty much whatever we need to in terms of numbers of people,” Heck says. “I like to have this big map of the property on my wall just so I can look at it and see how much space we have - 53 square miles of land, and we have a lot of plans for that space.
